TYPES OF IP COVERAGE
Different types of Intellectual Property coverage can include Multi-Peril policies and policy Endorsements. They can be added to an existing policy and premiums and will be adjusted accordingly. Dumont Insurance does not use a cookie cutter approach for determining coverage, but instead customizes Intellectual Property coverage to meet the needs and circumstances of each customer.
There are two basic types of Intellectual Property coverage. The first coverage is a Defense policy. It protects companies sued for alleged infringement by covering much of the legal costs associated with defense.
The second coverage is called Abatement coverage. It helps pay legal expenses to enforce IP against alleged infringers and countersuits when the insurer considers the case valid.
These coverages are available for any company with:
• |
issued patents, patent applications or provisional applications; |
• |
registered trademarks, trademark applications, common law trademarks, trade dress, and, |
• |
registered or unregistered copyrights (must be registered before asserting). |
